In this lesson, we will learn about what you should expect in listening module of IELTS test. We will also explain various question types that you’ll see on listening exam. Question types are also known as Task types.
Listening test consists of four parts, each with ten questions.
The first two parts are concerned with social needs. The first part is a conversation between two speakers and the second part is a monologue.
The final two parts are concerned with situations related to educational or
training contexts. The third part is a conversation between up to four people and the fourth part is a monologue.
A variety of question types is used, including: multiple choice, matching, plan/map/
diagram labelling, form completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion,
summary completion, sentence completion and short-answer questions.
Candidates hear the recording once only and answer the questions as they listen. In paper based IELTS, ten (10) minutes are allowed at the end for candidates to transfer their answers to the answer sheet. In computer-based IELTS, no dedicated 10 minutes are given in the end. You’ll be given some time before the recording plays and some time after the recording ends.
In this lesson, you’ll learn about answer sheet and how to use it.
You'll be given some time to look at the questions before recording will begin to play. You should use this time to guess and predict the answers before you listen. For example, for fill in the blank questions, you should guess what word can fill the gap in the question?
